For my Carnival themed 18th I wanted to make a cake that was very happy and crazy and was able to serve all my guests. So I decided to go with a rainbow cake add a little pom pom decoration on the top.
For the cake I just used 3x vanilla butter cake and split each cake into 2 to make 6 layers for the rainbow. I used just a basic recipe from Taste.

After the cake had been baked I shaped each layer so that the cake sat flat. Using a thick butter cream icing I stuck each layer together smoothing the cake out. I then made a basic royal icing and poured it over the whole cake. I used gobstoppers to decorate around the bottom of the cake.
*Sidenote: I get most of my baking tips from Cupcake Jemma. She is amazing and her recipes are so good. If you love to bake I really recommend that you check her out. Click here to see here videos. To make the PomPom cake topper I used: 1. Purple, blue, green, yellow, orange and pink tissue paper 2. Sticky tape 3. White string 4. 2x wooden skewers 5. Scissors Making the pompoms is actually a very simple process. First you must take on piece of your tissue paper, fold it until it looks around the size you would like and then start fringe cutting (just be careful not to go to far as you need at least 1cm of space at the top to hold it together) After you have cut all along the folded tissue it is time to roll. Roll the tissue until it meets the end and the grab a piece of sticky tape to hold it together. Continue to do this to all the coloured paper. Once they are all ready it's easy! Just tie the string from one skewer to the other and tape the pompoms on in any order. This cake was so amazing in the centre of the lolly table and was a huge success!! Definitely give it a go!
