A Swim with the Fish

My absolute FAVOURITE animal is the JELLYFISH! They are such majestic animals in the sea and I just think they are amazing creatures. So, for my 15th birthday party I decided to make a splash and have an under the sea party! (clearly I was very popular in high school).
I sent out little scrolled up invites inside clear plastic baubles and them filled with sand and a sea shell. I called these the 'message in a bubble' invitations. Below is an example of the invite scroll.
All the guests had to come dressed as 'something to do with the ocean'. I wanted to keep it broad as some people don't always like dressing up, and under the sea can be a little hard if you don't always want to go all out like me! My jellyfish costume is below. My costume was made out of a sombrero covered in pillow stuffing and the covered by a large piece of blue material. The strips hanging from the hat were a mix of bubble wrap, material strips and streamers.
For weeks I worked on decorations for this event, although all of them are pretty simple and can be done cheaply and relatively easily, I just needed to squeeze in the time to make them, between work, school and soccer.
I made a selection of under the sea creatures out of paper mache such as a whale, a squid, a shark and a dolphin. Helium balloons were stuck on strings all over the floor to create a watery feel and build some depth in the event space. Fish made from paper plates were hung from the roof and stuck onto the walls, and little paper starfish were stuck all over the room and covered the tables. I even covered a bean bag in purple material and added stockings stuffed with news paper underneath to create an octopus looking creature.
Everyone went home with a personalized picture taken in the green screen photo booth with a thank you card and lolly bag. See some of those images below:
Overall the biggest success was the environment created in the party room due to to the amount of decoration. I would definitely re-do a party like this again, everyone had a lot of fun!!
