A Summer Splash

As apart of my degree in Business Event Management, I studied abroad in Thailand for one trimester. I had the opportunity to fully plan and execute a pool party event for the students of the University and their friends and family. Together with my event group, we reserved the whole two story pool house at a hotel close by our university. We spent the next few weeks planing the decorations, the menu and negotiating the prices with the hotel.
Once all the nitty gritty details had been pulled together, we all took turns selling tickets on campus at the University. Each ticket included a full buffet meal, unlimited drinks, a coconut on arrival (these are obviously very common in Thailand so we could get lots of fresh coconuts for very cheap) and entry into the venue.
On the day of the event we arrived at the venue 5 hours before the start time to set up - we had quite a bit to do. We blew up all the amazing floatie toys we hire, we checked on the progression of our food order for the night, we arranged the tables and made the table centers.
Finally the time came for the guests to start arriving. My friend Chloe and I worked the registration desk and made sure each guest who came through was greeted, given a coconut and wrist banded.
The night started fantastically and the DJ's were amazing, however the sun was blazing for the first few hours of the event and this did make some guests a little uncomfortable. We did try and help as much as we could but supplying them with more fans and cool drinks.
Over the next few hours at the event, the guests enjoyed the good music, danced and swam in the beautiful pool and feasted on the great Thai buffet.
At the end of the night we received some really great feedback from the guests who said the food was great and the venue was amazing. The whole experience was one I won' forget! Getting the chance to plan and execute an event, whilst I was oversees, in a predominantly non-English speaking country was a real challenge but I had so much fun doing it!!
If you live in a hot country or are hosting a party in the summer, I really recommend trying a pool party theme. There are so many fun things you can do with it and everyone loves a bit of a summer splash!!
